LANSING– On the first anniversary of Donald Trump’s legal war on the Affordable Care Act, the Michigan Democratic Party is highlighting the devastation the president’s broken promise would inflict on Michigan’s working families. Just last weekend, Trump doubled down on his administration’s legal battle on the ACA in the midst of a global pandemic. Here’s Trump’s broken health care promises by the numbers:
- 720,000 Michiganders Uninsured. If Trump’s legal war on the ACA succeeds, 720,000 Michiganders could lose their insurance, representing a 114% increase in uninsured Michiganders.
- 4,394,173 Michiganders Lose Protections for Pre-existing Conditions. The almost 50% of Michiganders with a pre-existing condition could lose critical protections if the ACA was struck down.
- 230,930 Michiganders Lose Health Care Tax Credits. Over 230,000 Michiganders enrolled in the ACA marketplace would lose tax credits making health care more affordable.
“One year ago today, Donald Trump launched an all out legal assault on the ACA that could devastate everyday Michiganders,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “In the midst of a pandemic, Michigan cannot afford four more years of Trump’s broken health care promises.”
