LANSING– Just months before the COVID-19 outbreak, Health and Human Services raised alarms around the Trump administration’s pandemic preparedness that went ignored.
The October 2019 report, which highlighted “funding shortfalls, equipment shortages, and disorganization within and among various branches and levels of government,” went “unheeded” by Donald Trump. Even after receiving the troubling warnings, Trump fought to slash funding for the Centers for Disease Control, a part of Health and Human Services.
“Donald Trump recklessly ignored warnings about his administration’s lack of preparedness for a global pandemic, and now we’re seeing the devastating consequences,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “This president failed Michigan families and left our state without the resources it needs to fight COVID-19 as he played political games.”
