LANSING– Last night, Donald Trump held a disastrous Fox News town hall where he doubled down on past attempts to slash Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid and emphasized his plans to “totally kill” the Affordable Care Act.
The remarks come after Trump promised to protect Michiganders’ health care and Social Security, including a recent tweet saying, “we will always protect your Medicare and we will always protect your Social Security.” Despite the promises, the president has attacked the critical programs, including proposing over $900 billion in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security and repeatedly fighting to repeal the Affordable Care Act, most recently in the Supreme Court.
“Yet again, Donald Trump is doubling down on his broken promises and fighting to strip health care from working families and slash Social Security benefits,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesman Christian Slater. “Michigan voters can’t afford Donald Trump’s dangerous attacks on the critical programs they rely on.”
