Michigan Dems slam shameful silence from MIGOP on alleged sex offender Matt Gaetz withdrawing from AG nomination
LANSING — Today, former Florida Representative and alleged illegal drug user and sexual predator Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration to be Trump’s Attorney General. Despite heinous allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, the MIGOP has been shamefully, but unsurprisingly, silent about Gaetz, despite years of extremist Republicans lobbing false accusations against Democrats.
“This should not be a partisan issue, someone who has been accused of illegal drug use and sexual misconduct with a minor should never have been put forward for Attorney General,” said Michigan Democratic Party Spokesperson Tommy Kubitschek. “Michigan Republicans should have spoken up and made it clear that Gaetz cannot be trusted and that Michiganders deserve better — instead, it was crickets from them for this entire process.
“The MIGOP’s current silence about Gaetz is deafening and should be alarming to parents across Michigan – it is well past time for them to come forward and denounce it. Michiganders deserve to see both parties stand up for what is right, but yet again, the MIGOP is cowing to Trump’s extremist agenda. ”
