Following VP Harris’s Detroit visit, Gwen Walz comes to Grand Rapids to talk about education, student support, and debt relief
LANSING — In the week’s second visit from the Harris-Walz campaign, First Lady of Minnesota Gwen Walz will visit Grand Rapids to headline a campaign event with the Michigan Education Association (MEA). As a longtime educator and former NEA and AFT member, Walz knows that students are our future and deserve to be supported — not demonized and saddled with lifelong debt.
Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting for an America where every person has the opportunity not just to get by but to get ahead. They believe that education is a key to the middle class, and when our middle class is strong, America is strong. It’s a stark contrast with Donald Trump, who has hurt our teachers, students, and schools at every turn.
“Gwen Walz has been a public servant her entire life, striving to help students grow and learn to become the best version of themselves,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “She and her husband, Governor Tim Walz, have been champions for teachers and students against Trump’s Project 2025 agenda that wants to demolish the Department of Education, ban books, and gut our public education system.
“We need Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in the Oval Office to protect our schools from the constant Republican attacks that will hurt millions of students of all ages. For our students, for our teachers, and for our future, we must elect Harris and Walz this November and once again defeat Donald Trump’s MAGA agenda.”
