On the second anniversary of the reversal of Roe, Chair Barnes underscores the fact that abortion is still on the ballot this cycle
LANSING — In the two years following the reversal of Roe v Wade, millions of people across the country have been stripped of their fundamental freedom to make their own choices for their bodies. MAGA Republicans have since passed some kind of abortion ban in 41 states, despite Americans’ overwhelming support for abortion access.
“Because of Donald Trump and his MAGA acolytes, younger generations have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers had,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Republicans don’t care about the damage their cruel and archaic agenda will do or the lives it will ruin — and they will keep pushing until they have stripped away women’s most basic rights. Even in states like Michigan with codified abortion protections, another Donald Trump presidency could put in place a national abortion ban, destroying all of that progress.
“Let’s be clear: abortion is on the ballot. Trump has promised a national abortion ban, MAGA Republicans in Congress have attacked contraception and IVF, and state Houses across the country have followed suit. Even with Prop 3 and all Michigan Dems’ hard work, Michiganders could be at the whim of their MAGA anti-abortion agenda.
“To give our children the future they deserve, I am confident that Michiganders will once again vote on the side of freedom for all and send President Biden and Vice President Harris back to the White House, and Democrats back to Congress this November.”
