LANSING — Today marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Griswold v. Connecticut ruling which protected the right to buy and use contraceptives – a stark reminder that all of the Michigan GOP Senate candidates want to rip women’s rights to make their own personal medical decisions by banning abortion.
Mike Rogers, Sandy Pensler, and Justin Amash all support dangerous abortion bans:
- Mike Rogers “consistently voted for 20-week abortion bans,” said “abortions should be legal only to prevent the death of the mother,” and co-sponsored and voted for anti-abortion bills that would have criminalized and banned abortion. In Congress, Rogers co-sponsored four anti-IVF bills and “repeatedly co-sponsored bills” to suspend FDA approval of mifepristone. Rogers refuses to protect IVF in the Senate and won’t answer for his past fetal personhood legislation votes. Rogers celebrated the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. If Rogers had “lived in Michigan instead of Florida” in 2022, he would have voted against Proposal 3.
- Sandy Pensler called Roe v. Wade “terrible” and “tyrannical.” Pensler said that he has “the same position on being pro-life as President Reagan and President Trump.”
- Justin Amash supports an abortion ban, describes himself as “100% pro-life,” and co-sponsored a bill to restrict IVF. Amash supported the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade.he believes that “life begins at conception.”
