ICYMI: Michigan Dems Condemn Dangerous Comments From Rep. Walberg on Gaza

MIGOP Congressmember makes horrific comments on conflict in Gaza

LANSING — In case you missed it, this weekend, US Congressman Tim Walberg started a firestorm after he was caught on video implying the US should drop nuclear bombs in Gaza to “get it over quick.” Walberg’s callous remarks demonstrate the horrific disregard for human life and casual endorsement of suffering that is pervasive in the MAGA GOP.

Here is the bottom line — if Republicans take power this cycle, this is their plan – end humanitarian aid and give the green light for the wholesale slaughter of Gazans. Don’t forget, this is a sitting member of Congress, and it’s more clear than ever that Republicans are willing to say their depraved plans openly and proudly

Thankfully, Michigan Dems were quick to condemn these dangerous ideas, emphasizing the human cost of this conflict and rightly pointing out that Michiganders deserve better from our elected leaders on such an important issue.

While President Biden and Democrats work to achieve lasting peace in the region, Republicans have made it clear that they will do nothing to stop the violence.

Detroit News: Michigan Republican congressman suggests nuking Gaza, ending humanitarian aid

  • “It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick,” Walberg says in a video circulating on social media, referencing the Japanese cities that the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on at the end of World War II…
  • U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, also condemned the remarks from Walberg, a former pastor. “This is a reprehensible thing for anyone to suggest, especially an elected official and someone who considers himself a man of faith.”
