LANSING — MAGA Matt Hall thinks he knows what’s best for our state, despite being embroiled in his own controversy and standing in the shadow of a broken MIGOP. Just this week, advocates called for an investigation into Matt Hall’s “disturbing” behavior. There is clearly no real leadership in the state Republican Party – let’s not forget he spent an entire legislative session opposing a Democratic agenda that fought and delivered on all the issues that matter most to Michiganders.
“If Matt Hall wants to be a leader, he should spend more time getting his own house in order and less time opposing the overwhelmingly popular agenda that the Governor and our Democratic legislature have passed,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Michigan Democrats have been fighting for one overarching thing for the last year – a brighter future for all Michiganders – but somehow, at every turn, Matt Hall has stood in the way of progress and bowed to the most extreme factions of his party. It’s more clear than ever that Republicans have no plan for Michigan, they will just keep on their chaotic downward spiral.”
Here is just a sample of the popular pieces of legislation that MAGA Matt Hall has opposed while claiming to be a leader for Michigan:
- Hall voted against stricter sentences for firearm offenses, voted against mandating purchase licenses for all gun sales, and voted against mandating universal background checks for all firearm transactions.
- Hall voted against repealing the 1931 law that banned abortion without exceptions for rape and incest and against repealing prison penalties for doctors that performed abortions.
- Hall voted against all pieces of the Reproductive Health Act: SBs 474, 476, 477 and HBs 4951, 4953, 4954, 4955, 4956, 4949.
- Hall voted twice against eliminating the state’s Right-to-Work provisions for private sector workers and against repealing Right-to-Work for public sector workers.
- Hall voted against codifying a key part of the Affordable Care Act.
- Hall voted against the school aid appropriations bill that budgeted $160 million to provide free school lunches for all children.
- Hall voted against increasing funding for veterans and the Department of Veterans and Military Affairs.
- Hall voted against the state budget that included $416 million to fix the roads, $1.2 million for veterans, and $171.5 million to fund local public police and public safety departments.
