Democrats continue to live the values we fight for as workers at the Michigan Democratic Party voted 100% in support of the historic new union contract
LANSING — Yesterday evening, Michigan Democratic Party workers voted with 100% support to ratify a new contract with the party that prioritizes the needs of our staff and will raise wages, increase stipends for work-related expenses, and improve contributions to retirement funds.
Michigan Democratic Party staff who are organized with IBEW Local 1106 negotiated with the Michigan Democratic Party to bargain for a fair contract. After spending the fall supporting the UAW workers’ fight for a fair contract, Michigan Democrats are proud to have stood by our values in our organization.
“We are so excited about this agreement, and we are proud of all of our team who worked so hard for it,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Michigan Democrats are proving that our pro-labor values are more than just talking points as we support our own staff in the same way we fight for all workers across Michigan. Our leadership team looks forward to this new contract, as we all work together to fight for Democrats and our values here in Michigan in such a critical election year.”
“This is how we fight for democracy in the workplace — supporting workers and ensuring fair, high-quality jobs,” said IBEW Local 1106 Business Manager Eric Fleet. “100% of the votes cast by our members were in support of this agreement, and we are grateful to Chair Barnes and everyone who came to the table to make this contract possible. We hope this will be a model for all state Democratic parties to follow to make stronger and fairer workplaces for us all.”
