Unlike the GOP that only cares about the 1%, Michigan Democrats are laser-focused on continuing to grow the middle class and help working families
LANSING — In case you missed it, Governor Whitmer continued to invest and deliver for Michiganders by signing supplemental legislation yesterday that will alleviate school district debt, continue to fix the damn roads, support community colleges and public universities, and lower Michiganders’ taxes.
This comes on the heels of the Governor announcing last week that Michigan families will receive working families tax credit checks ahead of schedule, following Democrats quintupling the tax credit. These Democratic-led efforts will help grow our local economies and support families by infusing their communities with funds for what they need most.
By increasing the working families tax credit and investing in communities, Michigan Democrats are buildinga fairer economy so everyone can make it in Michigan. Michigan Dems are standing up and supporting all Michiganders, unlike the MIGOP who only help themselves and the wealthiest 1%.

- “This directly benefits half the children in Michigan, and moms and dads can use this extra money at tax time to pay the bills, put food on the table and buy school supplies,” Whitmer said in a statement Thursday.

- Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed bills on Monday that are expected to alleviate school district debt, invest in infrastructure, and support community colleges and public universities.

- Officials said the bills will invest hundreds of millions of dollars from the Federal Highway Administration to fix the damn roads and bridges across the state of Michigan, including the replacement of a nearly 120-year-old water system in Highland Park, which will allow the Great Lakes Water Authority to invest in water infrastructure projects in other communities.
Michigan Radio: Governor signs supplemental bills with more than $600 million in spending
- The spending covers two fiscal years, and most of the money comes from the federal government. It also includes $114 million dollars in debt forgiveness for school districts in Ypsilanti, Inkster, Pontiac, Muskegon Heights, and Benton Harbor…
- The supplemental spending bill also includes more than $250 million in state funding for capital improvement projects at colleges and universities throughout the state. That includes $30 million for the new Blue Dot Lab tech center at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids.
