Michigan Senate Dems remove burdensome regulations on reproductive freedoms in second healthcare win this week
LANSING —Today, Democrats in the state Senate passed the Reproductive Health Act (RHA) to repeal medically unnecessary and cumbersome laws around reproductive care.
On the heels of codifying the ACA provisions, Michigan Democrats are working hard to lower costs and improve health outcomes for Michiganders this week. Meanwhile, the MAGA MIGOP continues to try to tear apart abortion rights in Michigan, despite voters making their support for reproductive freedom overwhelmingly clear.
“This landmark legislation proves that Michigan Democrats will continue to defend reproductive rights for all Michiganders,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Democrats are hard at work improving the health care system in Michigan, while Republicans continue to try and put up barriers to necessary care. We know that reproductive freedom is crucial for everyone’s well-being, and we will fight to keep politicians out of the doctor’s office and medical decisions strictly between patients and providers.”
The Reproductive Health Act will remove existing regulations like the mandatory 24-hour waiting period, the ban on insurance coverage of abortions, and the criminalization of abortion providers. Despite Michiganders’ support for reproductive freedom, the MIGOP continues to stand for these archaic and dangerous measures.
