LANSING — In the flood of recent stories on the free fall of the MIGOP, you may have missed that last week former MIGOP House Speaker Rick Johnson was sentenced to 55 months in prison for his part in leading a corrupt bribery scheme as chair of the Michigan Medical Marijuana Licensing Board.
In typical Michigan GOP fashion, Johnson abused his power to make tens of thousands of dollars in exchange for medical marijuana licenses, and as the U.S. District Judge said, Johnson did this all to “pad [his] pockets, feast on free meals and satisfy [his] sexual desires.”
Wonder what MAGA Matt Hall – the poster child for extremism and current leader of the House GOP – thinks about the new sentencing? Well you’ll have to keep on wondering because Hall has been noticeably absent. Perhaps he is too busy trying to dig out of his own scandal and history of violent threats that he has no time to comment on another one of MIGOP’s leader’s fall from grace.
And where is our other favorite Rick? Don’t worry, Rick Snyder is never far behind the trail of corruption in the Michigan GOP. He conveniently appointed Rick Johnson to the Medical Marijuana Licensing Board, and then just seven months later a federal investigation was underway.
Check out some more of the highlights of the sentencing from the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press, and don’t miss the Detroit News’ deep dive into the scandal, which includes everything you’d expect from an action movie that flopped at the box office – a man cave, a white lamborghini, and a sex worker who calls Johnson “Batman.”
Unfortunately, the only thing flopping in this saga is the MIGOP who are once again failing Michiganders.
