House Freedom Caucus members take a stand… against celebrating the abolition of slavery
LANSING — TheMichigan Republican House Freedom caucus is at it again. This week members Steve Carra, Neil Friske, Matt Maddock, and Josh Schriver voted against making Juneteenth a public holiday. Instead of uplifting and commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, these far-right-wing members of the GOP put their radical right-wing agenda ahead of what Michiganders want.
So if they aren’t voting for this legislation, what are these Republicans prioritizing instead? They are focusing on:
- Criminalizing abortion providers in Michigan
- Making all schools teach the “Christian foundations of the United States”
- Voting against bills to prevent sexual assault
- Establishing a Gas Stove Appreciation Day
- Restricting athletes across the state on how they are able to compete base on gender
The rot runs deep in the Michigan GOP, and with these far-right extremists being embraced with open arms, the Republican Party has no place in the halls of power.
You can be sure that we won’t forget exactly where their priorities lie next November.
