LANSING —Congresswoman Debbie Dingell who has long fought to move up Michigan’s Democratic Presidential Primary along with a coalition of the leading Democrats in the state are reacting to the proposed changes to the 2024 Democratic Primary calendar.
In a joint statement Michigan Democratic Party Chair Lavora Barnes and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell said: “We have always said that any road to the White House goes through the heartland and President Biden understands that.
The DNC’s Rules & Bylaws Committee has gone through a thorough process, one that should be repeated every four years, to come to this decision and we thank them for that.
This has been a 30-year effort led by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and the late Senator Carl Levin to make the early primary states look like the nation.
We are now one step closer to that becoming a reality and will work hard to earn the votes of the full DNC in February.
We look forward to having Democrats of all stripes compete in Michigan and see its diversity of people, industry, and regions.”
Senator Debbie Stabenow said, “In order to win the Presidency you must win the heartland. That’s why Michigan is the best place to pick a President. I was so proud to pick up the baton from former Senator Carl Levin, and work with Congresswoman Dingell, the Lieutenant Governor, Chairwoman Barnes and other Michigan leaders. Together, we are one stop closer to making sure the Presidential selection process truly reflects all of America.
And Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist added, “Michigan is undoubtedly the best place to pick a president. Our rich diversity of all kinds makes us the perfect microcosm of America, and a great state to make deep investments in organizing power. I am grateful to President Biden, the Rules and Bylaws Committee, and most especially to Congresswoman Dingell, Chairwoman Barnes, Senator Stabenow, and the late Senator Carl Levin who spearheaded this effort on behalf of Michiganders.”
