GOP candidate Thompson’s election denial, anti-choice positions wildly out of step with Downriver

Jamie Thompson has fringe views and connections to far right organization that raffled off AR-15 as a fundraiser after Uvalde shooting

LANSING – With her support for radical anti-choice policies and her refusal to accept the results of the 2020 presidential election, far-right Republican state House candidate Jamie Thompson is too extreme to represent the 28th state House District in Lansing.

Thompson’s connection to the radical group Michigan Leadership Group, which organized a fundraiser that included the raffle of an AR-15 in the weeks after the massacre at a Texas elementary school, is further proof that she is not fit to represent constituents in parts of Monroe and Wayne counties. Thompson’s husband, Ronald Matte, is listed as president of the Michigan Leadership Group which describes itself as a group looking for supporters who will “stand with us to help preserve the fundamental principles of God, family, and country.”

Thompson has been endorsed by radical anti-choice group Right to Life of Michigan, which requires its endorsed candidates to support a ban on all abortions without exception other than the life of the mother even in cases of rape and incest.  She has spoken out against lifesaving, science-based measures aimed at keeping Michiganders safe. Thompson voiced support for a so-called forensic audit’ of the 2020 election and received the endorsement right wing group Patriot Approved.

“Radical Republican Jamie Thompson’s extreme views and connections with fringe, far-right groups show she is out of step with mainstream, moderate voters across Downriver communities,” Lavora Barnes, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. “Supporting the criminalization of abortion and failing to support exceptions for rape and incest is further evidence that Jamie Thompson is not listening to Michiganders who want continued access to basic health care.”

Thompson is running against Democrat Rob Kull to represent the 28th House District, which covers communities in Monroe and Wayne counties, including a number of Downriver communities like Taylor and Woodhaven.
