Pam Pugh and Mitchell Robinson stand up for Michigan’s children
LANSING – The Michigan Department of Education hired educational contractors to conduct LGBTQ training to assist teachers with LGBTQ community differences and their potential needs. The Department of Education has come under scrutiny for the contents of the training, but the organization has defended the training as part of an ongoing effort to “provide safe, supportive, and inclusive school climates where all students can thrive – especially students who identify as LGBTQ+.”
“We want schools to be safe, welcoming, and inclusive for all children and adults who work and learn in them” said Dr. Pamela Pugh and Dr. Mitchell Robinson, candidates for the State Board of Education. “Supporting educators and students with diverse backgrounds and identities, whether it’s students of color or those who identify as LGBTQ+, should not be a divisive issue. Instead, we must continue to work together – educators, parents, students, and the community – to ensure that students are treated with dignity and respect regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sex or any other identifying characteristic.”
Dr. Pamela Pugh and Dr. Mitchell Robinson held a press conference with stakeholders recently to advocate for unity within public school discourse. Pugh and Robinson are working with the community to push back against organized right-wing attacks that are aimed at dividing parents and educators.
