Michigan is home to “an economy that improved the most in its history since the pandemic began two years ago” – an indisputable example of Governor Whitmer’s decisive leadership that the entire slate of untested gubernatorial Republicans countered with plans to undermine working families and hamper Michigan’s economic progress.
Michigan’s outperformed other states on “equally weighted measures of employment, personal income, home prices, [and] mortgage delinquency.”
Governor Whitmer was critical in securing GM’s $7 billion dollar investment to make Michigan “the ‘hub’ of electric vehicle development and manufacturing” – a “big win” that represented GM’s “single largest investment announcement” in the company’s history.
Thanks to her continued work to make Michigan one of the top states to do business, LG Energy Solution recently announced they would be making a nearly $2 billion dollar investment to expand electric vehicle battery production in Michigan – creating over a thousand good-paying jobs. Since Whitmer took office, over 20,000 auto jobs have been created in-state.
She has also worked across the aisle to pass three balanced budgets without a tax increase. To put money back in the pockets of Michigan families, Governor Whitmer worked across the aisle to ink an “historic” bipartisan deal resulting in $400 refund checks for every auto-insured vehicle in the state – a huge cost-saving reform that even top Republicans like Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey said “couldn’t have gotten done without her.”
With Michigan seniors in mind, Governor Whitmer called on the legislature to fully repeal the pension tax which would save half a million households an average of $1,000 annually.
