This Thanksgiving, Michigan Democrats have a lot to be thankful for. In the past year, Michiganders elected President Biden, a leader who is truly delivering for our state, and we’re proud to have a Governor and Democratic Congressional delegation committed to partnering with the president and getting things done for the Great Lakes State.
Since taking office in January, President Biden and Michigan Democrats have fought tooth and nail to get historic legislation like the American Rescue Plan and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed — all while Republicans continued playing political games at the risk of American lives.
With President Biden in office, he’s added 5.5 million jobs to the workforce — Michigan benefited from 16,000 of those in just the last month — passed lifesaving legislation, and increased vaccine availability to children as young as 5 years old. The Michigan Congressional Delegation has partnered with him every step of the way.
We’re thankful for:
- Senator Gary Peters who was instrumental in securing $65 billion for high-speed internet in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law so families in rural Michigan will finally have the broadband infrastructure they need to get connected. Michiganders will receive $100 million.
- Senator Debbie Stabenow who truly delivered for Michigan autoworkers. She was the driving force to make sure the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included a national network of electric vehicle charging stations. Now, Michigan is leading the way in EV infrastructure– you could say we’re a “driving” force behind cleaner cars, and a cleaner environment.
- Congresswoman Debbie Dingell whose passion for her constituents ensured her provisions on EVs, water infrastructure, bridge repairs, and investment in clean energy were included in the full Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Because of her support, Michigan can invest in the future of our infrastructure.
- Congressman Dan Kildee who, with the support of Sen. Stabenow, is responsible for the additional tax credit of $4,500 for union-made vehicles.
- Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence and Congressman Andy Levin who were relentless advocates for clean drinking water initiatives and replacing lead pipes across our state and the entire country. Michigan will receive $1.3 billion over five years to replace every single lead pipe in the state and ensure every man, woman, and child, no matter where they live, can turn on their faucets and not be afraid to use their water.
- Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin who has been a voice for her constituents in Congress by voting for legislation that she knows will benefit them — like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Build Back Better Act.
- Congresswoman Haley Stevens who was instrumental in advocating for workers in the American Rescue Plan by calling for the protection of the thousands of pensions that thousands of Michiganders were at risk of losing due to not being able to pay into their retirement benefits. The pandemic squeezed a lot of people thin, but Rep. Stevens listened to her constituents and advocated on their behalf.
- Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib who voted for the Build Back Better Act that invests and helps parents, children, teachers, and more across Michigan. This bill will help thousands of Michiganders make ends meet and provides vital tax breaks to help the most vulnerable continue recovering from the pandemic.
