State Central Committee Approves Endorsement Convention

Convention Set for Saturday, April 17th

LANSING The Michigan Democratic State Central Committee made history today by approving an Endorsement Convention for April 17, 2010 in Detroit.

The Convention will allow precinct delegates, elected officials, candidates for public office, and members of the Michigan Democratic Party to officially endorse a Democratic candidate for Attorney General and for Secretary of State.

“This is an historic moment for Democrats and for Michigan,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer said. “This Convention is the first of its kind and will give our candidates more time to meet voters, travel throughout the state, and raise money to defeat Republicans in November.”

The Endorsement Convention will be held the same day as the Michigan Democratic Party’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner.

“This will be a great weekend for Democrats,” Brewer continued. “It will be a time to show the voters that Democrats have the solutions to move Michigan forward.”

There are currently two Democratic candidates for Secretary of State: Wayne State University Law Professor Jocelyn Benson and Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey.

Two candidates are also seeking the Democratic nomination for Attorney General: Wayne State University Board of Governors Chair Richard Bernstein and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.
