1. What organization/constituency group do you represent and how long is your affiliation?
I represent the Michigan Education Association, which represents education employees throughout the state of Michigan. I have been affiliated with the MEA since August of 1989, almost 18 years.
2. Give us a brief synopsis of your personal and political background:
I taught school in rural South Dakota and Nebraska for 16 ½ years. After completing my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership in 1983, I was hired as a Uniserv Director with the Nebraska State Education Association. I continued my employment with NSEA until taking a position with the Michigan Education Association in August of 1989. I started with the MEA as a Uniserv Director in the Kalamazoo field office. In the fall of 1993 I was requested to go to Lansing to help lobby. I continued to lobby on behalf of MEA until my position was eliminated in 2003, at which time I became Campaign Consultant.
In both my professional and my personal life, I have been politically active in the Democratic Party. I have worked many campaigns throughout the years. I have served as a precinct delegate for several years.
3. What are your plans for Democratic victory in 2008?
My plan for 2008 is to help keep Michigan Blue and to put a Democratic president in the White House. I will be working very hard to lead our organization in supporting candidates that will bring Democratic leadership to the State House.
4. What is your best Democratic moment?
My best Democratic moment was being selected as a Delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Another great moment was this past November when Governor Granholm was reelected and the Democrats took control of the Michigan House.
